Rihanna’s Fenty Skin Overnight Gel-Cream Review: Is It Worth It?

Do You Need a Spoon? Rihanna's Fenty Skin Instant Reset Overnight Recovery Gel-Cream Review

What do we have?

Fenty Skin Instant Reset Overnight Recovery Gel-Cream, 50ml

Nighttime Restorative Gel-Cream

I’ve written about my thoughts on Rihanna’s skincare line in my review of my favorite toner, so let’s get straight to the point.

The night cream was not included in the set of minis I initially purchased, as it was released a bit later. I had to buy the full-size and hope for a miracle.

I don’t like greasy creams, even at night and even in winter, so the word “gel” in the name was very appealing.

Like the toner, the cream is ethical, vegan, gluten-free, non-comedogenic, and comes in a recyclable plastic bottle.

It even has replaceable cartridges!

When you lift half of the cap, you find… A SPOON!

Undoubtedly, it’s very hygienic and beautiful, but… Ladies and gentlemen, does anyone actually use these things with creams? I managed to use it twice before giving in and dipping my fingers directly into the jar.

It would be funny if EVERYONE uses it.

The cream’s consistency is indeed gel-like. A rich, oily gel texture.

I think it’s the first time I’ve seen an oily gel.

It’s so thick that it even stands on the spoon. It resembles a semi-cooked condensed milk.

By the way, the entire line has unusual scents. Not too strong, but I think some people might not like it. A mix of tropical flowers and fruits. All the products have different scents, but within the same “range”.

As for its effects, it’s…

A good moisturizing cream.

I didn’t notice the promised reduced pigmentation, vanished wrinkles, or any other miraculous effects. However, it genuinely hydrates and nourishes the skin.

What’s more, it’s even too heavy for summer nights, so I temporarily switched to a Clarins gel, and use Fenty when I feel dryness or tightness. It’s an excellent option for colder weather.

Dry skin – immediately after applying the cream – after absorption

It absorbs relatively quickly without stickiness but can be felt on the skin. It’s not suitable for those who prefer “watery” gel creams.

I wanted to end the review by saying “a bit expensive,” but after checking Sephora’s skincare prices, I realized it’s reasonable 😀

Will I repurchase? Yes, for colder weather.

If you’ve been looking for a non-greasy but thick and moisturizing cream, I recommend it.

Thanks for reading, as always, I’m looking forward to seeing you in the comments!

Please, tell me you don’t use this spoon…

I use a spatula, as I don’t like dipping my fingers into the product. It might be all in my head, but even with clean fingers, I still think the formula could spoil faster. Considering that my skincare routine often involves layering several products, which are best applied with some time in between, the idea of putting fingers already covered with something else into the formula… No, I’m not ready for that 🙈
In general, I prefer tubes and airtight bottles; open jars are less appealing to me. Thanks for the post, it’s very relevant. I was looking at this cream after getting the set. Does it smell the same as the other products from the brand?

It has a very unique scent, but I personally like the smell. Yes, I also prefer bottles like Fenty’s day cream, where you don’t have to dip into anything.))

I actually do use a spoon.)) I don’t like creams in jars (I find them unhygienic), and if I do buy one, I always get a spoon from my stash.

I also prefer containers that you simply can’t dip into.))

I don’t use spoons! I’m totally fine with dipping my fingers into any jar; it’s more convenient for me. After all, I don’t dig up soil with my hands before applying cream.))

I reassure myself with the fact that creams contain preservatives. 😀

I don’t use them either. Firstly, hardly anyone applies skincare with dirty hands, and secondly, manufacturers put enough preservatives in jars to prevent anything from growing in there ☠️🙃. Of course, it’s much better when the cream is in a bottle with a dispenser, but only one that extracts all the contents without having to cut open, disassemble the bottle, or waste 1/5 of the cream. Otherwise, a jar is better. 🐹

      Dispensers are love indeed!)))

As far as I know, when it comes to open-type packaging, more preservatives are used, taking into account the not-so-careful user. And if you want to be thorough, you should wash/sanitize the spoon before use, which few people do. It’s better to just scoop with freshly washed hands.

I think so too, but we all want to be that ideal person who does everything “correctly” :,D

To me, a spoon doesn’t seem that hygienic either, as we don’t take it from a sterilizer but from the same non-sterile lid. However, I always carefully wash my hands before applying cream. So yes, for me, the spoon is useless as well.

Washing hands is a must, indeed. I try to take care of my skin right after showering when I’m all clean. 😀

I use a spoon, but! only because I live with three cats. Whether I wash my hands or not, their fur ends up in the cream jar and on my hands, which is annoying. I do this not for hygienic reasons, but because the fur sticking to my face is unpleasantly ticklish. I’ve admired Rihanna since my youth, as well as her cosmetics line. Thank you for sharing!

I also wanted to add that you’ve done an incredible job matching the decor and background to the color of the jar; everything looks so stylish and well-coordinated. I love beautiful photos.

Oh, this isn’t even a spoon; it’s more like a scraper-spoon/applicator, sort of like a gua sha massager, but slightly different. I use such tools only if the shape is convenient and I like it, or if the jar is of a large volume. Otherwise, I always wash my hands before applying any skincare! 😎

I’ve been wanting to try a gua sha massager. Do they really help with swelling?

I can’t speak about swelling, as I never have that issue. I eventually ordered a double-sided jade roller and a “goose foot” for myself, and I use the roller more often. It’s simply very pleasant: the stone is cold, and you get a lymphatic drainage massage in any case. Gua sha is also nice, it slightly smooths the skin, but as I mentioned, I don’t have swelling. I haven’t been using them for very long, but I like them! Some people store these tools in the fridge, and I think it’s even more enjoyable when they’re cold – I should try putting them there. Of course, I wash them well with soap after each use; it’s scary to think about how much dirt can accumulate on them otherwise! 🤭
